Review for The Skinny
Toddler-like grins hang on the faces of the five Casiokids;
anticipating the gleeful mayhem theyÕre about to unleash on the
unsuitable sheen of Edinburgh's Electric Circus with their boa
bedecked instruments.
Thankfully the quickening beats of ÔTogens huleÕ instantly turn the
venue into a bouncing playground of fun. Thundering drums and
incessant cowbells support a swirling menagerie of guitars and bleeps,
filling the room with frenetic splendour. With songs wilfully
extending into relentless jams, itÕs clear that the Norweigan outfit
rely on sheer, unabated energy. The vigour with which ÔGomurmammaÕ is
received would have an older crowd in danger of cardiac arrest.
Smiles are checked, only briefly, when security display little
enthusiasm for the fervent dancing taking place in their carefully
coiffed venue, ejecting two of the more energetic dancers. Undaunted
though, Casiokids reinforce their unabashed eccentricity with a punchy
cover of Ivor Cutler's 'Darling'. The crowd hardly seem to notice the
Scottish nod, but dance on in delight regardless. As the rhythm
section swells to three for the thumping climax of 'Fot i hose',
grins, long since fledged into beaming smiles, threaten to lift off
faces. A Casiokids gig is the 7th birthday party you never had.
